His comprehensive knowledge and dedication to excellence make him a trusted advisor and leader in the field.
Joanne is a Chartered Waste Manager and qualified Environmental Manager with over 25 years of expertise spanning senior policy and operational roles in both the public and private sectors
Her career reflects a deep commitment to advancing environmental standards, regulatory compliance, and sustainable practices. Joanne's ability to navigate complex challenges and implement impactful strategies has established her as a respected authority in waste and environmental management.
Tom is a seasoned researcher and data analyst with over 25 years of experience across diverse industries.

Martin Hopkins
Martin brings over 24 years of expertise in the waste sector, coupled with 15+ years in chemical engineering and consulting. He has a proven track record leading waste-to-energy developments, including pioneering pyrolysis, gasification, and hydro-treating technologies
Career highlights include serving as a Director at Costain’s Waste and Renewable Energy division and advising private equity firms on investments in innovative waste solutions. His project portfolio spans from tire pyrolysis and waste-to-jet fuel initiatives to technical due diligence for cutting-edge waste management technologies. With a background in chemical engineering, Martin combines technical rigour with strategic insight, making him a key advisor on waste and renewable energy developments globally.
John Watson
John is a seasoned professional in the waste management sector, with over 25 years of senior managerial and board-level experience. He specialises in waste processing, recycling, biomass, and Energy from Waste (EfW) operations, including the design, build, and management of large-scale facilities
As a former Director of Stobart Energy, John oversaw a 1.8M-tonne-per-year biomass supply portfolio and developed contracts for ash recycling and third-party fuel supply for EfW plants. He also managed RDF/SRF and ash handling for the 75MWe Ferrybridge multifuel plant and led the establishment of a 400k-tonne-per-year biomass processing facility for SSE, supporting the UK’s first coal-to-biomass plant conversion. A qualified engineer, John is a Member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).
Howard Ellard
Howard brings nearly 40 years of expertise in the waste and environmental sector, with a career spanning roles as a regulator, operator, and consultant
As Business Development Director at Viridor, he played a pivotal role in growing the business from a £20M turnover to over £700M through strategic acquisitions and organic development. With a master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Howard’s skills encompass environmental compliance, facility development, and energy production. He has overseen the transition from landfill to recycling and energy recovery, delivering numerous projects including waste processing facilities, and energy-from-waste plants.
Nigel Cronin
Nigel has held both operational and development roles within the waste and environmental sector for over 30 years with a career covering senior management roles within private sector construction material companies, waste management companies and global environmental consulting groups
During this period, Nigel has been involved in many of the high-profile waste sector acquisitions involving most of the top 5 current waste companies and related investors. These range from major integrated players seeking to acquire multi-site and varied business assets through to private equity investment opportunities in sector specific areas such as metal recycling, energy from waste, biomass, landfill and collection activities.
His role during this period has identified, investigated and challenged market opportunities in waste and resource recovery activities as part of multi-disciplinary teams covering legal, contractual, property, permitting, land quality and planning considerations. Nigel has also undertaken and assisted in the delivery of business change during the post-acquisition transitional phase in order to secure the achievement of investor strategic objectives.
